Campaign for a Working Connecticut follows all state legislation related to workforce development.
Below are some bills that are currently active in the legislature and need action:
SB 6562- An act concerning adult education and transition to college – this bill seeks to allow adults who already have their high school diploma but need additional preparation for college to enroll in an adult education program.
Initially this bill did not have funding or a funding mechanism included and there was concern about a potential unfunded mandate. However, an amendment has been offered that allows for adult education programs to charge for these classes. Contact your legislators to support this legislation . Tell your legislator to support 6562 because people need multiple access points to build their skills to prepare for Connecticut’s economy.
SB 27- An act promoting the pursuit of education by recipients of assistance – this bill looks to expand the number of hours recipients of temporary assistance for needy families funds may spend on educational pursuits as part of approved work activities and has been vote out of the Human Services committee and is awaiting action by the Senate. Contact your legislators to support this bill. Tell them to support SB 27 to ensure people can get off and stay off public assistant they need access to more education and training and this bill expands those opportunities.
